OK...NOW WHAT CAN I EXPECT??
You might expect one or more of the following things after receiving
a diagnosis of Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum.....
- You CAN expect that your child will have a series of medical tests performed
which might be overwhelming to you.
- You might expect to feel shocked, overwhelmed and sad...
- You might expect to feel anxious as you await test results performed
on your child.
- You might expect to feel disbelief, that this just isn't true or even
that something you have been told by a doctor or results from a certain
test performed just are not true...
- You might feel frustrated. Frustrated that there are no solid answers.
Frustrated at yourself with all of the emotions and feelings and thoughts
that fill your mind. Frustrated that you don't know what to expect...
- You might feel scared for your child's future...
- You might feel anger and denial...
- You might feel like your child will be just fine because they seem
ok right now...(especially if your child was diagnosed as a small infant)...
- You might feel a loss for all that you dreamed and expected for
your child...
- You might feel like one day you want to find out all there is to know
about ACC and the next day you don't even want to think or talk about
it...
- You might feel like you're finally dealing well emotionally with things
only to find another thought or worry creeping back into your mind or a
whole new issue arising which starts the struggle of emotions all over again...
- You might feel guilty for why this has happened to your child and
try to blame yourself for it...
- You might feel like you're not doing enough to help your child develop
to their greatest potential...
- You might feel a big dose of reality hit and feel sad when you see your
child playing in a group of children his or her own age and not yet doing
many of the things that the other children can do...
- You might expect to get discouraged and feel like crying when you watch friends
or family member's babies who were born around the same time as your own
child pass your child up developmentally as well as much younger babies
who might pass your child up developmentally...
- You might question whether or not you can get through this but you
can by taking it one day and one step at a time...
